Membership of the Academy is open to medical scientists, clinical scientists, biochemists, other diagnostic scientists and lecturers in the field of clinical science and laboratory medicine. Applications from internationally trained diagnostic scientists are also welcome. Applicants for Membership should apply using the Membership Application Form.
Fellowship Scientists who are current Academy members for over 12 months (or who hold fellowship of an equivalent international professional body), have appropriate post-graduate qualifications and four years relevant post-graduate experience may apply for Fellowship. Applicants for Fellowship should apply using the Fellowship Application Form. Scientists with postgraduate qualifications that are not accredited by the Academy may apply to have their postgraduate qualifications reviewed for eligibility for promotional medical scientist posts. This review process is performed as part of an application for Fellowship but can also be assessed separately. The separate review process is open to both members and non-members of the Academy. Applicants for the postgraduate qualification review process should apply using the Postgraduate Qualification Review Form. Please read the Pathways to Fellowship document for full details (click here) of requirements for postgraduate qualifications to be deemed equivalent to Academy accredited MSc programmes.
Associate Membership Associate Membership of the Academy is open to professionals working in fields allied to clinical science and laboratory medicine (e.g. Laboratory Aides, Research scientists, Company Reps, etc.). Associate members benefit from access to the Academy CPD system and reduced rate entry to CPD events. Applicants for Associate Membership should apply using the Associate Membership Application Form.
Student membership Fulltime students from Technological University Dublin (TUDublin), Munster Technological University (MTU)/University College Cork (UCC) and Atlantic University Galway (ATU) undertaking BSc in Biomedical Science are eligible for student membership. We will keep students informed of relevant student events and forward a copy of Converse by email. Applicants for student membership should apply using the Free Student Membership Form (form 5)
Membership Meetings The Membership Committee of the Academy meet once a month to examine all applications.
