Abstract:
Since the advent of computers there has been an effort to replace manual processes & manual documentation with IT solutions. There is no doubt that laboratory documentation is laborious and difficult to manage. Nonetheless how we use IT is very important and often we can make a simple process into a complicated one when we try to replicate it with the use of computers. When we incorporate IT processes into our laboratories we more than ever need to think about how this will effect workflow in ever busier laboratories. We also need to think about contingency in events like downtime or the most recent cyber-attack. I would like to discuss the pros and cons of going paperless & paper light in this presentation and how we need to look at our processes in a different light when it comes to computerising them.
