17th September 2024

The work of Medical Scientists is at the core of patient care; our role is
essential ensuring accurate and timely diagnoses directly impacting patient
outcomes. This year, World Patient Safety Day on September 17th highlights the
theme of “Improving Diagnosis for Patient Safety,” drawing
attention to the critical need for precision and collaboration in the
diagnostic process.

Accurate diagnosis is the foundation of effective treatment and care, and
medical scientists working at the intersection of technology, research, and
clinical practice, are pivotal in reducing diagnostic errors and improving
patient outcomes. Our expertise in laboratory medicine is essential to
delivering reliable diagnostic information, which supports clinicians in making
informed decisions for patient care.

We encourage all members of the Academy of Clinical Science and Laboratory
Medicine to take an active role in promoting patient safety by raising
awareness about the importance of accurate diagnosis, sharing best practices
within your laboratories, and supporting this year’s global initiative to
advance patient safety through better diagnostic practices. Below are some
